Mebon temple is the Older temple in Angkor area, there are three levels and

surrounding by five towers with tow three meter high standing elephant statues in each corners of the temple, they are still in good condition with their tails still intact.

Jayavarman IV, a usurper, moved the capital from Angkor to Koh Ker in 928AD.
twenty years later Rajendravarman II returned the capital to Angkor,
after that constructed East Mebon as Hindu temple in 952 AD, dedicated to Shiva in honor of the king’s parents, this temple built in the middle of island Eastern Baray (now is dry ),
so it was surrounded by water. It is a temple mountain of combined brick, literate and sandstone construction very similar to the Pre rup temple.
